Hamed Rashtian, Born 1984

Hamed Rashtian was born in Tehran, on September 14th1984. He was born into a cultural family. His father is a documentary film producer and his mother a Journalist. He has one younger brother, studying Pure Mathematics in the same Shahid Beheshti University.

In 1998 during teenage years, Hamed joind Jihad university (part of Tehran university) for design classes. Later on, he finished his high school education, in the field of mathematics and physics. He was later accepted into Shahid Beheshti university (in year 2002) in Tehran. He continued to study pure mathematics and physics.
During his education in this university, Hamed started to build a solid foundation in sculpting. He started to put his ideas and design onto the paper, in perspective. At the same time he started to exercise a hands on approach to building molds and using a variety of materials, to build his first sculptures. Hamed was very pleased with his improvement in sculpting and never looked back.

In the Iranian universities, its almost impossible to change your original choice of study, and as university courses are too much, to do both, after 2½ years, Hamed made his choice of sculpting over pure mathematics. Before this difficult decision Hamed worked in an "Art workshop" under the supervision of Mr. Shojaeddin Shahabi for 1½ years and spend one year working together with a team of young Artists.

Hamed attended a number of courses, teached by Mojtaba Ramzi, Ramin Saadat and other experts. In this time frame, when he had allocated 100 pct of his time on building sculptures, he met Mr. Tanavoli, the leading contemporary Iranian sculptor and as he was deeply fascinated by Mr. Tanavoli knowledge and ingenious. Hamed attended Mr. Tanavoli classes on Bronze sculpture techniques and remained in contact with his mentor, ever since. He assisted Mr. Tanavoli on building of his sculptures in Mr. Tanavolis atelier, for some time.
